Who was Richard A. Henson?

Richard A. Henson was a pioneer in aviation, as the first person to apply the concept of "commuting" to air service. Throughout his career, he was known as an extremely hard worker, a man who expected high standards from his company and employees, and a visionary talent. His Christian principles guided him to always help his fellow man. During his lifetime, he often applied his savvy mind to charitable projects, often enhancing the outcome by creating a challenge and providing an incentive for those around him to meet it. What is the Richard A. Henson Foundation?

The Richard A. Henson Foundation is an extension of Mr. Henson's lifelong commitment to his fellow man. As a charitable, private foundation, the Henson Foundation provides grants for charitable works which meet the Foundation's priorities and guidelines.

Does the Henson Foundation make grants to individuals?

No. In accordance with IRS rules, the Henson Foundation only makes grants to qualified nonprofit organizations for charitable projects.

How do I apply for a grant from the Henson Foundation?

Please review the Foundation's priorities for grantmaking and your organization's eligibility. If you believe that your project and organization meet these guidelines, you must submit a Letter of Inquiry to the Foundation.

Specific instructions for your Letter of Inquiry, in addition to the Foundation's guidelines and priorities, may be found here.

If your project appears to be a viable candidate for a grant from the Henson Foundation, you will receive an invitation to complete a full application.

The Henson Foundation reviews Letters of Inquiry on an ongoing basis.

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore is a public, nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents of Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
